Winter Holidays Word Searches

Puzzles for the holidays of the darkest weeks of the year, in calendar order: Hanukkah and its eight nights, Las Posadas in the nine nights before Christmas, the Winter Solstice, Kwanzaa from December 26, New Year's, Epiphany on January 6, and Lunar New Year at the end of January or in February.

Many of them are festivals of light, held when the days are shortest: the menorah gains a candle each night of Hanukkah, the kinara one each evening of Kwanzaa, paper lanterns line the paths of Las Posadas, and Lunar New Year ends with the Lantern Festival. They make a good set for a class that learns about a different celebration each week of December.

Every puzzle prints in three levels: easy hides 5 words in a 10 by 10 grid, reading only across and down; medium hides 15 in a 12 by 12 grid; hard hides up to 23 in a 15 by 15 grid. Each print is a fresh draw from the topic's word list, and every sheet comes with an answer key. The same puzzles play online, on your own or against a friend in real time.
