The equinox comes around March 20, when day and night run close to even. The clocks go forward a week or two before it, and the extra evening daylight is what brings the daffodil up and the robin back onto the lawn. Pi Day falls on the 14th because 3.14 opens the number, and Albert Einstein was born on that date in 1879.
March is also Women's History Month, which is where suffrage, equality and trailblazer come from. The right to vote took American women seventy-two years to win, from the meeting at Seneca Falls in 1848 to the Nineteenth Amendment in 1920. International Women's Day on March 8 grew out of the same campaigns.
