Good Samaritan Word Search
This Good Samaritan word search follows the parable in Luke 10: the road from Jerusalem to Jericho, the robbers, the priest and the Levite who passed by, the Samaritan who bandaged the wounds with oil and wine, his donkey, and the inn.
Jesus told the story to a lawyer who had asked what he must do to inherit eternal life, and then, having answered with love of God and love of neighbor, asked who his neighbor was. The road in the story is real: it drops about 3,300 feet over seventeen miles from Jerusalem to Jericho through bare, rocky desert, and it had such a reputation for bandits that it was known as the Way of Blood.
The Samaritan was the surprise. Samaritans and Jews had despised each other for centuries, and the listeners would have expected the third traveler, after a priest and a Levite, to be an ordinary Israelite. Oil and wine were the first aid of the day, one to soothe and one to clean. The two coins he left with the innkeeper were denarii, each a day's wage, enough for a stay of a couple of weeks, and he promised to pay whatever more was owed. The lawyer, asked which of the three was a neighbor, would not say the word Samaritan and answered, "the one who showed mercy."
