Creation Word Search

This Creation word search takes its words from the first two chapters of Genesis: light and darkness, the firmament of the sky, seas and dry land, sun, moon and stars, then fish, birds, cattle and the seventh day of rest.

Genesis 1 works in pairs. The earth begins formless and empty, with darkness over the deep. The first three days make places: light divided from darkness, the sky dividing the waters above from the waters below, and the land divided from the seas, with grass, plants and fruit trees. The next three days fill them: sun, moon and stars for the sky, fish and birds for the seas and the air, cattle and creeping creatures and people for the land. Each day ends with the same line, "and the evening and the morning."

The King James Version uses the word firmament for the dome of the sky, from the Latin firmamentum, something made firm. People are made last, in the image and likeness of God, told to be fruitful and multiply and given dominion over the creatures, and six times the chapter says the work was good, the last time very good. On the seventh day God rested, which is the reason the sabbath gives for its day of rest. Genesis 2 retells the making of the first man from the dust of the ground, with the breath of life, and of the woman from his side, in a garden in Eden.
