This Fruit of the Spirit word search holds the nine from Galatians 5:22-23, love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self control, with the words around them in Paul's letter: the Spirit, the flesh, freedom and the harvest.
Paul wrote to the churches of Galatia, in what is now central Turkey, around AD 50, and the list answers one he had just given, the works of the flesh. The fruit is singular: one fruit with nine parts, not nine fruits, which is why teachers so often draw it as one tree or one cluster rather than a basket. The King James Version of 1611 has longsuffering, meekness and temperance where newer translations read patience, gentleness and self control.
The passage ends, "against such there is no law," and the next verse says to walk by the Spirit, so the picture is an orchard rather than a rule book: fruit is grown, not manufactured. Sunday school lessons usually pair each of the nine with a real fruit, a banana for joy or a grape for patience, and children learn the list as a song. The harvest image comes back in the next chapter, where Paul writes that whatever a person sows, that is what they will reap.
