Armor of God Word Search
This Armor of God word search lists the six pieces from Ephesians 6: the belt of truth, the breastplate of righteousness, shoes of the gospel of peace, the shield of faith, the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, with the words of the passage around them.
Paul wrote Ephesians from prison, chained to a Roman soldier, which is the usual explanation for why the picture is so exact: a legionary's wide leather belt, a breastplate of bronze or iron, hobnailed sandals, a large wooden shield covered in hide and big enough to hide behind, a helmet and the short sword. Only the sword is a weapon for attack; everything else is for standing firm.
The passage names the enemy as the devil and his schemes, or wiles in the older translation, and the rulers and powers of this dark world, which is why the word stand comes back again and again in a few verses. It closes with prayer, asking the saints to stay alert and pray at all times in the Spirit. The armor has been a Vacation Bible School favorite for decades, acted out with cardboard breastplates and foil swords, and the Sunday school version pairs each piece with a question: what does truth hold up, what does faith stop.
