US History Word Search

The country doubled in size in 1803, when Thomas Jefferson bought the Louisiana Territory from France for about 15 million dollars. He sent Meriwether Lewis and William Clark to map it, and their party reached the Pacific in November 1805 with help from Sacagawea, a Shoshone woman who translated for them. The Homestead Act of 1862 later offered 160 acres to settlers who farmed the land for five years.

The Constitution has been amended only 27 times since 1789, and the first ten amendments, the Bill of Rights, were ratified together in 1791. The Wright brothers made the first powered airplane flight at Kitty Hawk, North Carolina, in December 1903; it lasted 12 seconds. Neil Armstrong stepped onto the moon on July 20, 1969, sixty-six years later.
