French and Indian War Word Search

This French and Indian War word search covers the fight for North America from 1754 to 1763: Fort Duquesne and the Ohio Valley, General Braddock and young Washington, Montcalm and Wolfe at Quebec, the Iroquois and the fur trade of New France.

Britain and France both claimed the Ohio Valley, and the French built Fort Duquesne at the forks where two rivers meet to form the Ohio. In 1755 General Edward Braddock marched on it and was killed in an ambush near the Monongahela River. The war is named for the two enemies the British colonists faced, the French and their Native allies, though the Mohawk fought on the British side.

The British took Fort Duquesne in 1758 and renamed it after William Pitt; the city of Pittsburgh grew around it. In 1759 General James Wolfe's men climbed the cliffs below Quebec at night and beat the Marquis de Montcalm on the Plains of Abraham, and both generals died of their wounds. In the Treaty of Paris of 1763 France gave up Canada, and Britain was left deep in debt, which led to the new colonial taxes of the 1760s.
