Declaration of Independence Word Search
This Declaration of Independence puzzle holds the words of July 1776: Jefferson and Adams, Franklin and Hancock, the Continental Congress, the colonies and their grievances against King George, and the unalienable rights to liberty and the pursuit of happiness.
On July 2, 1776, the Continental Congress voted for Richard Henry Lee's resolution that the colonies were free and independent states. Two days later it approved the text, drafted by a committee of five: Thomas Jefferson, who wrote the first draft at 33, John Adams, Benjamin Franklin, Roger Sherman and Robert Livingston. That night John Dunlap printed about two hundred copies as broadsides to be sent through the colonies.
Most of the 56 signers put their names on the handwritten parchment copy on August 2, 1776, with John Hancock, the president of Congress, signing first and largest. The document lists 27 grievances against King George III. Adams and Jefferson, rivals who became friends again late in life, both died on July 4, 1826, fifty years to the day after the Declaration was adopted.
