US Constitution Word Search
This US Constitution puzzle holds the words a class learns about the document: the Preamble and its goals of justice and liberty, each article and amendment, federalism and the separation of powers, the elastic clause, the supremacy of federal law, and the vote to ratify it.
The Preamble lists six goals: to form a more perfect union, establish justice, insure domestic tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general welfare and secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity. Seven articles follow. The first three set up Congress, the President and the courts; the fourth covers the states, the fifth the amendment process, the sixth makes the Constitution the supreme law of the land, and the seventh explains ratification.
Federalism divides power. Some is delegated to the national government, such as regulating commerce between the states, some is reserved to the states, and some, such as taxing, is concurrent. The elastic clause lets Congress make all laws necessary and proper for its listed powers. An amendment is usually proposed by two thirds of both houses and must be ratified by three fourths of the states, which is why there have been only 27. Treason is the only crime the Constitution defines.
