Test Taking Word Search

This test taking puzzle covers the questions, multiple choice, short answer, essay and matching, the habits that help, a study guide, flashcards, sleep and practice, and the proctor and rubric that judge the result.

Frederick Kelly, an educator in Kansas, wrote one of the first multiple choice tests in 1914, the Kansas Silent Reading Test, because it could be scored quickly and the same way by anyone. The College Board first gave the SAT in 1926. Machine scoring followed in the 1930s, and the number two pencil stayed because the early scanners read the graphite in its marks.

Studying works better as practice than as rereading. In 2006 the psychologists Henry Roediger and Jeffrey Karpicke found that students who tested themselves on a passage remembered much more of it a week later than students who read it again. Hermann Ebbinghaus mapped the forgetting curve in 1885 by memorizing lists of nonsense syllables and testing himself, and spaced review, a little each day, slows that curve down.
