Field Trip Word Search
This field trip puzzle follows the day from the permission slip to the gift shop: the chaperone, the school bus, the buddy system and the stops, a museum, zoo, planetarium, orchard or firehouse.
School buses in the United States are yellow because of a 1939 conference organized by Frank Cyr, a professor at Columbia University. Educators from across the country agreed on shared standards for buses, including one shade, now called National School Bus Glossy Yellow, because black lettering on yellow is easy to see in the early morning.
The guide who leads a class through a museum is often a docent, from the Latin docere, to teach, and many are trained volunteers. The first modern planetarium projector was built by the Zeiss company and opened at the Deutsches Museum in Munich in 1923. The Adler Planetarium in Chicago, which opened in 1930, was the first in the Western Hemisphere.
