Snowman Word Search
This snowman word search holds everything that goes into building one: packing snow rolled into a big base, a carrot for the nose, lumps of coal for eyes and buttons, a top hat, a corncob pipe, twigs for arms, and famous snowmen like Frosty and Olaf.
Good snowman snow is wet, near the freezing point, because a thin film of water on each grain lets the grains stick together. Dry powder falls apart in your hands. People have built snowmen for centuries: one of the oldest known pictures is a small drawing in the margin of a prayer book from around 1380, and in the winter of 1511 the people of Brussels filled the city with more than a hundred snow figures.
The snowman moved into songs and books in the last century. Gene Autry recorded Frosty the Snowman in 1950, the year after his hit with Rudolph. Raymond Briggs published The Snowman, a picture book with no words, in 1978, and its 1982 film added the song Walking in the Air. In 2008 the town of Bethel, Maine, built a snow woman named Olympia that stood more than 122 feet tall.
