Psychology Word Search
This psychology word search holds forty words from the science of the mind and behavior: memory, perception and motivation, the pioneers Freud, Pavlov and Piaget, and the ideas they left behind, from conditioning to the ego.
Psychology became a lab science in 1879, when Wilhelm Wundt opened the first psychology laboratory at the University of Leipzig in Germany. The word joins two Greek parts: psyche, meaning soul or mind, and logia, the study of something. Ivan Pavlov was not a psychologist at all. He won the 1904 Nobel Prize for work on digestion, and noticed along the way that his dogs began to drool at signals that meant food was coming.
Pavlov's finding became classical conditioning, and B. F. Skinner later built operant conditioning on rewards and reinforcement, testing it on rats and pigeons in a box that now carries his name. Jean Piaget watched children solve problems and described four stages of thinking, from infancy to the teenage years. Sigmund Freud split the mind into the id, the ego and the superego, and Abraham Maslow ranked human needs in a hierarchy, usually drawn as a pyramid with food and sleep at the base.
