Islam Word Search
This Islam word search holds forty words from the faith of about two billion Muslims: the Quran, the mosque and its minaret, the Five Pillars, the fasting month of Ramadan, and the Hajj pilgrimage to Mecca and the Kaaba at its center.
The Five Pillars are the duties every Muslim shares. The shahada is the declaration of faith. Salat is prayer five times a day, facing the qibla, the direction of the Kaaba. Zakat is giving a share of one's savings to people in need, traditionally 2.5 percent a year. Sawm is fasting from dawn to sunset through Ramadan, and Hajj is the pilgrimage to Mecca that every adult who is able should make at least once.
The Islamic calendar follows the moon, so its year runs 354 or 355 days and Ramadan starts about eleven days earlier each year, passing through every season in about 33 years. The calendar counts from the Hijra, when Muhammad moved from Mecca to Medina in 622. Five times a day the muezzin gives the adhan, the call to prayer, and Ramadan closes with Eid al-Fitr, the festival of breaking the fast.
