Turkey Word Search
A male turkey is a tom, a female is a hen, and a chick is a poult. Only the tom will gobble; hens cluck and purr. The red flap hanging over the beak is the snood, and the one under the chin is the wattle.
Wild turkeys are fast. They can run about twenty five miles an hour and fly short bursts into the trees, where they roost at night. Benjamin Franklin called the turkey a more respectable bird than the bald eagle, in a letter to his daughter in 1784.
Every November the President gives one bird a pardon, a tradition made official in 1989. The rest get the brine, the oven and the thermometer, and the wishbone goes to two people who pull until it snaps.
Print one for the kids' table while the gravy thickens.
