Gratitude is easy to say and harder to notice. This grid is full of small, ordinary words for it: a hug, a smile, a thank you note, a seat at the table with family and friends.

Some of the words are things to do. A class can run a food drive, write to a teacher or a neighbor, or volunteer for an afternoon. Others are things to keep, like a gratitude journal with three lines a day about what went well.

Psychologists have tested that last one. In a 2003 study, people who wrote down what they were grateful for each week felt better about their lives than people who wrote about hassles, and they also exercised more.

Use it in November, or any week a class needs a calmer start. The answer key comes with the sheet.
