Pilgrims Word Search
The Mayflower left Plymouth, England in September 1620 with 102 passengers and took 66 days to cross the Atlantic. Many of them were Separatists who had lived in Leiden, Holland for twelve years before the voyage.
They reached Cape Cod in November, and before going ashore 41 men signed the Mayflower Compact. Half of the passengers died that first winter. In March a man named Samoset walked into the settlement and greeted them in English.
Squanto had learned English after being taken to Europe, and he showed the settlers how to plant corn. Massasoit, the leader of the Wampanoag, made a treaty with them that held for more than fifty years. The harvest meal of 1621 lasted three days, with about ninety Wampanoag men and fifty English.
