Ten Commandments Word Search
This Ten Commandments word search follows Exodus 20: Moses on Sinai, the two stone tablets, the sabbath to keep holy, father and mother to honor, the neighbor's house not to covet, no false witness, and the golden calf that cost Moses the first set.
The commandments appear twice, in Exodus 20 and Deuteronomy 5, and the Hebrew text calls them the ten words, which is where the name Decalogue comes from: Greek deka, ten, and logos, word. The Bible never numbers them, so traditions count differently. Jewish tradition makes "I am the Lord your God" the first word, while Catholics and Lutherans join the ban on graven images to the first and split coveting into two.
Exodus says the tablets were written with the finger of God. When Moses came down and found the people dancing around a golden calf that Aaron had made, he threw the tablets down and broke them at the foot of the mountain, then cut two new ones. The sabbath commandment is the longest, and Deuteronomy gives a different reason for it: the memory of slavery in Egypt rather than the seventh day of creation.
