Paris Word Search

Forty Paris words: the Eiffel Tower and the Louvre, the Seine and Notre Dame, Montmartre and the Champs Elysees, the Arc de Triomphe, a croissant from the patisserie, a macaron, a beret and a ride on the metro.

The Eiffel Tower was built for the 1889 World's Fair from about 18,000 iron pieces held by 2.5 million rivets, and it was supposed to come down after twenty years. It stayed because its height made it useful for radio, and it gets a new coat of paint about every seven years. The Louvre was a royal palace before it opened as a museum in 1793; the glass pyramid in its courtyard was added in 1989, and the Mona Lisa hangs behind glass because the painting was stolen in 1911 and missing for two years.

Notre Dame was begun in 1163, burned in April 2019 and reopened in December 2024 after a rebuild that used oak from across France. The city is divided into twenty arrondissements that spiral out from the center like a snail shell, and the wide boulevard system was cut through the old streets by Baron Haussmann between 1853 and 1870. The first metro line opened in July 1900, just in time for that year's World's Fair.
