Boston Word Search
Forty Boston words: the Freedom Trail and the Harbor, the Tea Party, Fenway Park and the Red Sox, Harvard across the Charles River, Beacon Hill, the Swan Boats in the Public Garden and a bowl of clam chowder.
Puritans founded the town in 1630, and the Common they set aside in 1634 is the oldest public park in the country. On December 16, 1773, colonists dumped 342 chests of British tea into the harbor, and in April 1775 Paul Revere rode out to warn the Minutemen after a lantern signal, two lights hung in the Old North Church steeple. The Freedom Trail, a red brick line two and a half miles long, links sixteen of those sites.
Fenway Park opened in 1912 and is the oldest ballpark in the major leagues; its left field wall, the Green Monster, stands 37 feet high. The Boston Marathon has been run every year since 1897, the oldest annual marathon anywhere. The Tremont Street subway, opened in 1897, was the first in the United States, and the Swan Boats have paddled the Public Garden lagoon since 1877.
