This continents and oceans word search holds all seven continents, from Africa and Asia to Antarctica, and all five oceans, from the Pacific Ocean to the Southern Ocean, along with Pangaea, the Mariana Trench and the equator that runs between them.
Most American schools teach seven continents, but the count is a choice. Some countries teach six, joining North and South America, or joining Europe and Asia into Eurasia. Asia is the largest continent and Australia the smallest, and Antarctica is the only one with no permanent residents. The Pacific is the largest ocean, bigger than all the land on Earth put together, and its Mariana Trench drops nearly 11,000 meters at its deepest point.
The Southern Ocean is the newest name on the map. Scientists had long described the cold current circling Antarctica, and in 2021 the National Geographic Society recognized it as the fifth ocean. The continents themselves keep moving a few centimeters a year. In 1912 Alfred Wegener proposed that they had once formed a single supercontinent, now called Pangaea, which began to break apart about 200 million years ago.
