Business Word Search
This business word search covers how a company runs: the owner and the employee, the office and the warehouse, revenue, profit and loss, the contract, the merger and the franchise.
Company comes from the Latin com, with, and panis, bread, so the first companions were people who shared a meal. The business sense is old as well. The Dutch East India Company, founded in 1602, sold shares in itself to the public, and for that it is often called the first modern public corporation; it ran ships, forts and trading posts from South Africa to Japan.
Revenue is every dollar that comes in from sales; profit is what is left after paying for the product, the payroll, the rent and the rest of the overhead. A franchise lets someone else run a business under your name and rules. Ray Kroc, selling franchises for the McDonald brothers of San Bernardino, California, opened his own first McDonald's in Des Plaines, Illinois, in 1955.
