Abraham Lincoln Word Search

This Abraham Lincoln word search follows his life from a log cabin in Kentucky to the White House: the rail splitter and lawyer from Springfield, the debates with Stephen Douglas, the stovepipe hat, the Gettysburg Address and the Emancipation Proclamation.

Lincoln was born on February 12, 1809, and by his own count had less than a year of schooling in all. He taught himself law from borrowed books, kept a store and the post office in New Salem, Illinois, and served one term in Congress as a Whig. He is the only president to hold a patent, granted in 1849 for a device to lift riverboats over sandbars.

He grew his beard after an eleven-year-old girl named Grace Bedell wrote to him in 1860 that his thin face would look better with whiskers. His Gettysburg Address of November 1863 ran to about 270 words and took about two minutes. Five days after Lee surrendered in 1865, John Wilkes Booth shot him at Ford's Theatre in Washington.
