Wizard of Oz Word Search
This Wizard of Oz puzzle follows L. Frank Baum's book: Dorothy and Toto, the Scarecrow, the Tin Woodman, the Cowardly Lion, the Wizard, Glinda, the Munchkins, the Winkies and the Silver Shoes that carry Dorothy home to Kansas.
The Wonderful Wizard of Oz came out in Chicago in 1900, with color pictures by W. W. Denslow on nearly every page, and Baum went on to write thirteen more Oz books. He liked to say the name Oz came from a file cabinet drawer labeled O to Z. In the book the shoes are silver; the 1939 MGM film with Judy Garland turned them into ruby slippers to show off its Technicolor.
Some of the best parts of the book never reached the screen. The Emerald City is not as green as it looks: the Guardian of the Gates locks green spectacles on every visitor. On the way there the friends leap a ravine chased by the Kalidahs, beasts with the bodies of bears and the heads of tigers, and they fall asleep in a field of poppies until thousands of field mice pull the Lion out on a wooden cart. The Golden Cap lets its owner call the Winged Monkeys three times.
