This Dog Man puzzle holds forty words from Dav Pilkey's comics: Dog Man, the police Chief, Petey the evil cat, the kitten who is his good little copy, Flippy the cyborg fish, Zuzu, and George and Harold, the two boys who draw it all.
The first book, in 2016, tells how the hero is made. A police officer named Knight and his dog Greg are both hurt by a bomb, and at the hospital the doctors sew Greg's head onto Knight's body. The new officer has a dog's head and a dog's habits, from sniffing everything to fetching sticks, and he cannot talk, but he is a better cop than either of them was alone.
Dav Pilkey has ADHD and dyslexia, and as a second grader he was sent out of class so often that he ended up with his own desk in the hallway, where he filled notebooks with comics. The books are presented as comics made by George Beard and Harold Hutchins, the boys from his Captain Underpants series, and they include Flip-O-Rama pages, where flipping one page back and forth makes the drawings move. His first name is spelled Dav because of a mistake on a name tag at a pizza restaurant where he once worked.
