Roald Dahl Word Search
This Roald Dahl puzzle holds forty words from his books: Matilda, Wonka, the Oompa Loompa, the Golden Ticket, the BFG, the Twits, Miss Trunchbull, the Giant Peach and two of his made-up words, snozzcumber and whizzpopper.
Dahl was born in Llandaff, Wales, on September 13, 1916, to Norwegian parents, and his birthday is now celebrated as Roald Dahl Day. In World War II he flew as a fighter pilot for the Royal Air Force and crashed in the Libyan desert in 1940. At Repton, his boarding school, the Cadbury company sent boxes of new chocolates for the boys to test, a memory he wrote about in his book Boy and tied to Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.
He wrote in a small hut at the bottom of his garden in Great Missenden, sitting in his mother's old armchair with a board across his knees and writing in pencil on yellow paper. The BFG speaks gobblefunk, a language of invented words such as frobscottle, a fizzy drink whose bubbles go down instead of up, and snozzcumber, a foul striped vegetable. Quentin Blake drew the pictures for most of his children's books.
