Solar System Word Search
The solar system word search lists the eight planets from Mercury to Neptune, the moons Titan, Europa and Ganymede, and the places beyond the planets: the asteroid belt, the Kuiper belt and the Oort cloud.
Ganymede, a moon of Jupiter, is wider than the planet Mercury. Galileo found it in 1610 along with Europa, Callisto and Io, and Europa may hide an ocean of liquid water under its shell of ice. Titan, the largest moon of Saturn, is the only moon with a thick atmosphere, and it has lakes, though they are filled with liquid methane rather than water.
Earth reaches perihelion, its closest point to the Sun, in early January, at about 91 million miles, and aphelion, its farthest, in early July, at about 94.5 million. The seasons come from the tilt of the planet's axis, about 23.5 degrees, not from that change in distance. Voyager 1, launched in 1977, crossed the edge of the heliosphere into interstellar space in 2012.
