Pronouns Word Search
This pronouns word search lists the kinds and the words: personal, possessive, reflexive and relative pronouns, the subject forms she and they, the possessives mine and theirs, and reflexives such as myself and themselves.
A pronoun takes the place of a noun, and the noun it replaces is its antecedent. In "Maya lost her hat," Maya is the antecedent of her. English pronouns are the last words that still change form by case: she is a subject, her an object, hers a possessive. First person is the speaker, second person the listener and third person everyone else.
Singular they is older than many people think. Writers from Chaucer onward used they for a single person whose sex was unknown, and Jane Austen used it in her novels. Merriam-Webster added the nonbinary sense of they to its dictionary in 2019 and named it word of the year. Whom is fading in speech, but it still belongs after a preposition: to whom, for whom.
