Adverbs Word Search
This adverbs word search holds forty words that tell how, when, where and how often: quickly and gently for manner, tomorrow and soon for time, upstairs and nearby for place, and always, seldom and rarely for frequency.
An adverb modifies a verb, an adjective or another adverb. In "she spoke very softly," softly tells how she spoke and very tells how softly. Many adverbs are built by adding -ly to an adjective, but plenty are not: fast, hard, well, soon and often carry no ending at all, and fast and hard look exactly like the adjectives they come from.
Adverbs of frequency usually sit just before the main verb, as in "we always walk," but after a form of be: "we are always late." Degree words such as almost, quite and extremely change how strong another word is. Well is the adverb for good, so a team plays well, not good, though "I feel good" is correct because feel is acting as a linking verb there.
