NHL Word Search
The NHL and its clubs: the Original Six, meaning the Bruins, Canadiens, Maple Leafs, Rangers, Blackhawks and Red Wings, with the Penguins, Oilers, the Kraken and the rest of the thirty-two, plus the Stanley Cup, the playoffs and the Zamboni.
The league was formed in Montreal in November 1917 with four clubs, and the Canadiens, one of the four, have played every season since. From 1942 to 1967 it had just six teams, the Original Six, before the 1967 expansion doubled it to twelve in one summer. The Canadiens have won the Stanley Cup twenty-four times, more than any other club, with the Maple Leafs and the Red Wings next.
Sixteen teams reach the playoffs, four rounds of best of seven, and the Conn Smythe Trophy, named for the longtime owner of the Maple Leafs, goes to the most valuable player of those rounds. The Golden Knights reached the Stanley Cup Final in 2018, their first season, and the Kraken made Seattle the thirty-second club in 2021. The Winter Classic, an outdoor game played on New Year's Day, began in 2008 at the Buffalo Bills' stadium, in falling snow.
