March Madness Word Search
This March Madness puzzle follows the college basketball tournament from Selection Sunday to the Final Four: the bracket and every seed, the upset and the Cinderella team, the buzzer beater, and the ladder and scissors used to cut down the nets.
The NCAA men's tournament began in 1939 with eight teams, and Oregon won it. The field grew to 64 in 1985 and to 68 in 2011, when the First Four games in Dayton, Ohio, were added. The women's tournament started in 1982. John Wooden's UCLA teams won ten titles in twelve seasons between 1964 and 1975, a run no school has come near.
The phrase March Madness was first used in 1939 by Henry V. Porter, an Illinois high school official, about his state's high school tournament. A perfect bracket means picking all 63 games of the main draw correctly, and the odds of doing it by coin flip are about 1 in 9.2 quintillion. No 16 seed had ever beaten a 1 seed in the men's tournament until 2018, when UMBC beat Virginia 74 to 54.
