Evolution Word Search
This evolution puzzle holds the people, places and ideas of the unit: Darwin, Wallace and the Beagle, the Galapagos finches, selection, mutation, adaptation and speciation, and the fossil evidence.
Charles Darwin sailed on HMS Beagle from 1831 to 1836 and spent five weeks in the Galapagos Islands in 1835. He then spent twenty more years building his case. In 1858 Alfred Russel Wallace, collecting in what is now Indonesia, mailed him an essay describing the same idea, and the two papers were read together in London that July. On the Origin of Species came out the next year.
The evidence keeps arriving. Lucy, a skeleton of a human ancestor about 3.2 million years old, was dug up in Ethiopia in 1974. Tiktaalik, a fish with sturdy fins and a neck, turned up on Ellesmere Island in the Canadian Arctic in 2004. In industrial England the peppered moth grew darker as soot blackened tree bark, then paler again once the air was cleaned up.
