Photography Word Search
This photography word search holds forty words from the camera and the darkroom: the lens, the shutter and the aperture, exposure and focus, the tripod, film and the negative, the daguerreotype and bokeh.
The oldest surviving photograph from a camera is a view from a window in Burgundy that Nicephore Niepce took around 1826 or 1827. The exposure took at least eight hours, which is why sunlight seems to fall on both sides of the buildings. Louis Daguerre made the process far faster and announced the daguerreotype in 1839, the same year John Herschel helped spread the word photography, Greek for drawing with light.
George Eastman sold the first Kodak in 1888 already loaded with film for 100 pictures; the owner mailed the whole camera back to be developed and reloaded. In a lens, the aperture is the opening that lets light in, and its f-number runs backward: f/2 is a wide opening and f/16 a narrow one. Bokeh, from a Japanese word for haze or blur, is the soft, out-of-focus glow behind a sharp subject.
