The map is built on a rule. Teyvat has seven nations, each tied to one of the seven elements and ruled by the Archon who embodies it: Mondstadt has wind, Liyue has earth, Inazuma has lightning, Sumeru has dendro, Fontaine has water. A Vision is the gemstone that grants a person one of those elements, and most of the playable cast on this list is defined by which one they carry.
Two entries are the same person. Scaramouche and Wanderer are one character before and after a change of allegiance, which is why both names sit in the list, and the Traveler is whichever of the twins Lumine and Aether you did not choose at the start. The other one becomes a mystery you spend the story chasing.
