Famous Couples Word Search
Twenty couples, forty names: Romeo and Juliet, Antony and Cleopatra, Napoleon and Josephine, Elizabeth and Darcy, Johnny Cash and June Carter, and for younger players Kermit and Miss Piggy, Shrek and Fiona.
Pyramus and Thisbe are older than most of them. In Ovid's telling they are neighbors in Babylon whose parents forbid the match, so they talk through a crack in the wall and agree to meet at night under a mulberry tree. Shakespeare knew the story well: the workmen in A Midsummer Night's Dream stage it badly for laughs, and its ending, a lover who kills himself over a death that has not happened, is the ending of Romeo and Juliet.
The grandest monument on the list belongs to Shah Jahan and Mumtaz Mahal. She died in 1631 giving birth to their fourteenth child, and the Mughal emperor spent more than twenty years building her tomb at Agra, the Taj Mahal. When he died he was buried beside her, the one thing in the building that is not symmetrical.
