TV Shows Word Search
Forty words from the business of television: the pilot, the season and the finale, the sitcom, the soap opera and the game show, the showrunner who runs the writers, and the ratings that decide what gets renewed.
Philo Farnsworth, who grew up on farms in Utah and Idaho, sent the first all-electronic television picture in San Francisco in 1927; the image was a single straight line. Network shows filled American living rooms in the 1950s, and the A.C. Nielsen company began measuring TV audiences at the start of that decade, which is where Nielsen ratings come from.
I Love Lucy, from 1951, was filmed with three cameras in front of a live audience, a method Desi Arnaz pushed for and most sitcoms then copied. Shows without an audience often add a laugh track, an idea credited to the engineer Charley Douglass and his laff box. The Emmy award, first given in 1949, takes its name from immy, a nickname for an early camera tube.
