Titanic Word Search

This Titanic word search holds forty words from the ship that sank on its maiden voyage in April 1912: the iceberg, the lookout in the crows nest, the lifeboat, Captain Smith, the rescue ship Carpathia and the wreck found in 1985.

The Titanic was built at the Harland and Wolff shipyard in Belfast for the White Star Line, and left Southampton for New York on April 10, 1912. Just before 11:40 on the night of April 14, the lookouts, who had no binoculars, spotted an iceberg dead ahead. The ship turned but scraped along the ice, which opened five of its sixteen watertight compartments, one more than it could survive. It sank at 2:20 in the morning.

There were 20 lifeboats, with room for about 1,178 people, though about 2,200 were on board, and roughly 1,500 died. Wireless operators working for the Marconi company tapped out distress calls in Morse Code, and the Carpathia reached the lifeboats at about four in the morning. Robert Ballard found the wreck in 1985, about 12,500 feet down and broken in two.
