This nursing word search holds the tools and words of a nurse's shift: the stethoscope and thermometer, taking vitals, triage in the emergency room, the care plan, a fresh bandage, and two founders of modern nursing, Florence Nightingale and Clara Barton.
Florence Nightingale took 38 nurses to the British army hospital at Scutari in 1854, during the war in Crimea. She found soldiers dying more from infection than from their wounds, and she pushed for clean water, washing and fresh air. Soldiers called her the Lady with the Lamp for her night rounds of the wards. International Nurses Day falls on May 12, her birthday.
Clara Barton nursed wounded soldiers on Civil War battlefields and in 1881 founded the American Red Cross. Today a registered nurse in the United States must pass a national licensing exam, the NCLEX, before working with patients. Triage comes from the French trier, to sort, and it means deciding which patient needs care first.
