Mammals Word Search
Seventy mammals from aardvark to zebra, on land, at sea and in the air. The bat is the only mammal that truly flies, and the whale, dolphin, porpoise and manatee never leave the water. What all seventy share is hair at some point in life and milk for their young.
Some of the names are plain description in another language. Aardvark is Afrikaans for earth pig, which is close to fair, and armadillo is Spanish for the little armored one. Wildebeest is Dutch for wild beast, and the animal is a gnu. Meerkat is Dutch as well and means lake cat, which it is not: it is a kind of mongoose and lives on dry ground.
Two of them break the rules of their own class. The platypus is a mammal that lays eggs, and the male carries venom in a spur on its hind leg. The narwhal's tusk is not a horn but a single canine tooth that grows straight through the upper lip, spirals out to as much as ten feet and is packed with nerve endings.
