Holocaust Word Search
This Holocaust word search holds forty words for studying the murder of six million Jews by Nazi Germany and its collaborators: the ghetto and the yellow star, Auschwitz, Anne Frank and her diary, Elie Wiesel, the survivor and the rescuer.
The persecution began with laws. Soon after Adolf Hitler came to power in 1933, Jews were pushed out of jobs and schools, and the Nuremberg Laws of 1935 took away their German citizenship. On November 9 and 10, 1938, the night called Kristallnacht, mobs burned synagogues and smashed Jewish shops across Germany. During the war, Jews were forced into ghettos and then deported to killing centers in occupied Poland; at Auschwitz alone about 1.1 million people were murdered. The Nazis also killed Roma, disabled people and many others.
Anne Frank hid with her family for two years in a secret annex in Amsterdam before they were found in 1944, and she died in Bergen-Belsen in early 1945, at fifteen. The Kindertransport carried about 10,000 Jewish children from Germany, Austria and Czechoslovakia to Britain in 1938 and 1939. Israel's memorial, Yad Vashem, honors non-Jews who risked their lives to save Jews as Righteous Among the Nations, among them the Swedish diplomat Raoul Wallenberg.
