Animal Farm Word Search
This Animal Farm word search holds forty words from George Orwell's fable: Napoleon, Snowball, Boxer, Squealer, Old Major, Benjamin the donkey, Clover, Farmer Jones, the windmill and the seven commandments.
Orwell finished the book in 1944, and several publishers turned it down, T. S. Eliot among them, at a time when Britain and the Soviet Union were allies. It came out in August 1945 with the subtitle A Fairy Story. The farm is Russia after 1917: Old Major's dream stands for the ideas of Marx and Lenin, Napoleon for Stalin, Snowball for Trotsky, who was driven out, and Moses the tame raven for the church.
The animals paint seven commandments on the end wall of the big barn, and the pigs change them one at a time by night until a single rule is left: all animals are equal, but some animals are more equal than others. Boxer, the strongest horse, answers every setback with I will work harder and is sold to a knacker when his lungs give out. In the last scene the other animals look from pig to man and cannot tell which is which.
