Airplanes Word Search
This airplanes word search fills a flight with forty words: the pilot in the cockpit, the runway and the control tower, the wing, rudder and aileron, the flight attendant and the boarding pass, and the Wright brothers, who started it all at Kitty Hawk.
On December 17, 1903, near Kitty Hawk, North Carolina, Orville Wright flew for 12 seconds and covered 120 feet. The brothers made four flights that morning, and the last, with Wilbur at the controls, went 852 feet in 59 seconds. Every plane since has dealt with the same four forces: lift and weight, thrust and drag. The wing's shape and angle push air downward, and the air pushes the wing up.
The black box is not black. It is painted bright orange so searchers can find it, and there are two of them, one recording the flight data and one the voices in the cockpit. The distress call Mayday comes from the French m'aidez, help me, and was picked in 1923 by a radio officer at Croydon Airport in London. In 1927 Charles Lindbergh flew alone from New York to Paris in about 33 and a half hours, and in 1932 Amelia Earhart became the first woman to fly solo across the Atlantic.
