Party Games Word Search
This party games word search gathers forty games and the things that go with them: charades, musical chairs, Simon Says and hot potato, limbo and Twister, the scavenger hunt and the sack race, and the blindfold, the buzzer and the prize.
Charades began in France in the 1700s as a word riddle, solved syllable by syllable, and the characters in Jane Austen's Emma trade written charades in 1815. Acting them out came later, in Victorian parlors, and that is the silent version played today. Twister came out from Milton Bradley in 1966 and was selling slowly until Johnny Carson played it on The Tonight Show with the actress Eva Gabor that May. Stores sold out within days.
Limbo started in Trinidad, where it was danced at wakes, and became a party craze in the United States in the early 1960s, helped along by Chubby Checker's song Limbo Rock in 1962. In Sardines, one player hides and everyone who finds the hiding spot squeezes in too, until the last seeker finds a crowd. Marco Polo, the pool game, is named after the Venetian who traveled to China in the 1270s.
